Director LEE / Industrial Design & Architectural Interior Design

Director Lee previously served as Assistant Manager of the Marketing Planning Department at Eslite Bookstore. He pursued advanced studies in France, where he earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Design, along with professional diplomas in Product Design and Concept Design in the same year.

Over the course of his career, Director Lee has built industrial design as his core discipline while continuously expanding into product design, branding, spatial design, manufacturing, and social design. Through years of cross-disciplinary practice, he has developed a comprehensive design perspective that connects creative concepts with practical implementation.

Two Decades of Industrial Design: Experience, Refinement, and Cross-Disciplinary Practice

After returning to Taiwan in 2001, Director Lee joined ASUS. During his tenure, he led the industrial design team to receive recognition from four major international design awards: the iF Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, IDEA Design Award, and G-Mark Design Award. He was also the designer behind ASUS Group’s first iF Design Award and led the team to achieve the group’s first IDEA Silver Award.

Following the separation of ASUS and Pegatron in 2008, Director Lee continued to lead the industrial design team and established the PEGACASA design team. In addition to the team’s established IT product portfolio—including smartphones, smart wearable devices, VR products, notebook computers, tablet PCs, networking equipment, displays, and IoT products—he further expanded the scope of design into non-IT fields, including home appliances, fashion accessories, industrial equipment, electric vehicles, and next-generation transportation.

This period not only brought extensive experience in industrial design but also shaped his approach to cross-disciplinary integration. Beginning with the product itself, his design thinking extends to users, enterprises, manufacturing, and broader market needs, creating a more comprehensive framework that connects design innovation with practical production and commercialization.

In 2013, Director Lee was recognized by international media as one of the five notable design thinkers of the year, marking an important recognition of his long-standing commitment to design innovation and cross-disciplinary practice.

From Products to Spaces: Expanding the Scale of Design

Beyond product design, Director Lee has continued to expand both the scale and boundaries of design. In addition to developing premium electronic product lines, he gradually established broader corporate design capabilities and was involved in the design of Pegatron’s headquarters in Taiwan and Shanghai, as well as its production bases in Suzhou and Kunshan. Through these projects, design thinking was extended beyond individual products into corporate environments, workplaces, industrial facilities, and spatial experiences.

In 2019, Director Lee expanded into large-scale architectural and interior design for the first time. In collaboration with Vieshow Cinemas Group, he planned and designed MUVIE CINEMA, a premium cinema located in the heart of Taipei’s Xinyi District.

The project incorporated specially developed acoustic fabric from the technology industry and featured an advanced concealed auditorium sound system developed in collaboration with Vieshow Cinemas. Marble-patterned surfaces were integrated into the spatial visual language, creating a new relationship among architecture, materials, acoustics, and technology.

This cross-scale design practice brought the technological integration capabilities developed through product design into the spatial environment, exploring new possibilities in large-scale spatial design while reconsidering the role and value of IoT and acoustic products within architectural spaces.

Putting Corporate Social Responsibility into Practice

During his tenure at Pegatron, Director Lee initiated the Taiwan Design Assistance Program, providing professional design expertise and support on a voluntary and pro bono basis to underserved communities and public organizations in need of design improvements.

In 2016, he led his team to Hualien and Taitung, where they completed interior design and renovation projects for Yang Mu Library at National Dong Hwa University, Yu-Dong Junior High School, and YuLi Holy Church.

These projects were not only responses to the needs of public spaces and local communities, but also extended design beyond the traditional framework of commercial product development into broader humanistic and social contexts. Through direct engagement with local communities, an understanding of users’ needs, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, design became more than a solution to form and function—it became a means of improving environments, connecting communities, and creating social value.

In response to growing global concerns over environmental sustainability, Director Lee also promoted the concept of the Reusing Carton Standard (RCS).

By combining graphic design with innovative thinking, the initiative reexamined the value and potential of packaging cartons, with the aim of extending their useful life and maximizing opportunities for reuse. A series of visual indicators was also developed to help users recognize the remaining value of cartons and encourage them to actively participate in reuse.

This initiative was more than a reconsideration of packaging design; it sought to redefine the relationship between people and objects by transforming “single-use packaging” into a design medium with an extended life cycle. This innovative concept of redefining the value and lifecycle of packaging was recognized with an iF Design Award in 2012.

Cross-Border and Cross-Team Integration: Harnessing Diverse Design Capabilities

In 2026, Director Lee relocated to Houston, Texas, bringing his extensive experience in cross-team, cross-disciplinary design and manufacturing integration to the United States and entering a new stage of design practice.

Rather than treating design, engineering, manufacturing, mass production, and marketing as separate processes, Director Lee focuses on developing an integrated design and manufacturing service model. From the earliest stages of concept development, design decisions can be evaluated in parallel with manufacturing conditions, cost control, production feasibility, market requirements, and subsequent marketing strategies.

As AI rapidly transforms the way industries operate, the value of design is no longer limited to simply “creating a good product.” More importantly, design can help enterprises evaluate opportunities and make decisions earlier and more accurately through the integration of technology and design methodologies—reducing development costs, shortening product development cycles, and minimizing ineffective use of resources.

Director Lee therefore seeks to integrate his accumulated experience in design, engineering, manufacturing, management, and cross-team collaboration into a comprehensive service model spanning design, engineering, manufacturing, mass production, and the marketplace.

By connecting creative thinking with industrial capabilities, he aims to build a more efficient and effective bridge between design innovation and real-world business and manufacturing.

Connecting the Strength of Taiwan’s Manufacturing and Design

From industrial design to corporate design, from products to spatial environments, from commercial development to social initiatives, and now to cross-border and cross-disciplinary collaboration, Director Lee has always believed that the value of design lies not simply in creating something visually appealing, but in redefining problems, integrating diverse expertise, and transforming ideas into solutions that can be used, manufactured, understood, and ultimately deliver lasting value.

Driven by a deep appreciation for Eastern humanistic values and refined design, he continues to explore the intersection of craftsmanship, contemporary technology, and forward-looking innovation.

In the emerging era of AI, his pursuit extends beyond innovation in design itself. He envisions design as a core force connecting people, technology, manufacturing, and industry—with Taiwan’s manufacturing and design supply chain serving as the trusted foundation he knows best.

Through human-centered design thinking, the integration of aesthetics and emerging technologies, and the cross-disciplinary expertise accumulated over years of practice, he continues to create design value that brings together cultural depth, contemporary spirit, and enduring relevance.

Award
